19th meeting Chiang Mai Friends Group
Date: 26 August 2009
President (Khun Boong) of Chiang Mai Friends Group welcomed new friends and members to the meeting. She introduced an objective of the group. She also summarized all activities that member done from last time and future event.
· Result after growing bamboo trees at Ban Papai on August 12.
· Do & don’t in Thailand by Mr. John Shaw , he is an expertise on ceramic and historical. He gave us some tips about do &don’t in Thailand. He briefed about Klong Mae Kha history. He described how Chiang Mai is in the past year at the time he started to residence in here. He gave us some tips and advise too.
o Khun Nuttaphon Jaruwannaphong ,Project Manager, architect & Planner talked briefly about Community- base social Marketing Project. This project is a cooperation between government, business sectors, people, student and more . They will do the reality program about Chiang Mai environment. This project is mainly focus on rubbish, sewerage, organic agriculture. They will start a project by survey the opinion of people in Chiang Mai. The mission is to encourage people to take care of Chiang Mai city... This is project is a cooperation for the happiness of everyone in Chiang Mai. The program will on air in January.
o Chiang Mai Friends Group and FERC (Foundation for the education of Rural children) would like to invite friends and members, to be a sponsor of cook book. We have planned to raise funds for education of rural Children. We will have the book printed and published with photos as well the income from the book will be used to provide further funds for the education of rural Children.
o Chiang Mai Friends member card is a privilege card for member. Member will get discount from our sponsor. We need more 3 sponsors to print the card.
o Chiang Mai Mayor Election will be on October 4th. And on September 3 is the date that candidates will identify themselves at the City Hall. And we wish to have a good mayor in nearly future.
Let’s do a health talk by Mr. Guy Hopskin
Mr. Guy Hopskin is the founder of The Spa resort both in Samui and Chiang Mai where is the 1st health Destination resorts in Thailand . He is an expert on health and nutrition. We can learn more about him at http://www.thesparesorts.net/. He showed us 38 minutes of health fact documentary. This is about you are what you eat and food does matter to your life. This video give us a fact from the expert of health & nutrition area. The way to heal people with medicine and surgery kill lot of people. The way to maintain your good health is eat the right food. Also the expert said to talk a supplement is not the key of good health. It is not always good for you. The key of this video is food. It can help you prevent disease and heal you at the same time. They had done lot of research to prove this theory. But nowadays, human destroy a source of food by use chemical and do GMO with plant. It is time for us to taking a good care of our health and eats the right food. After this presentation, Mr.Hopskin answer members question.

· Grandma Cares is a non profit organization based in Chiang Mai with the purpose of supporting children of HIV positive parents who are left to the care of their grandmothers. Since its founding in 2002, it has served more than 200 children financial and moral support with it’s Adopt a Child program. As the program has evolved, it has expanded its operations in cooperation with other NGOs to rehabilitate rural schools, offer life skills workshops, support women’s cooperatives, and rehabilitate houses to prevent infant mortality. It costs $50 USD per month to support one child economicaly by providing school materials, food and living expenses and in some cases economic help with work projects. Children participate in life skills workshops twice a year to prevent future spread of the HIV virus, and are monitored regularly. Adoptive parents are provided with the background and photo of the child and are welcome to participate in activities with the child is possible.Anyone interested in helping this project by working on a short and long term plan is welcome to call Maria at 082 3 82 1176 or write to : This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. · Zonta International Chiang Mai Club are work under project “ Adopt A Grandma”. This will be an October Moon Party dance & cabaret 2009... This evening will full of jazz cabaret songs with Mark Walder & Rachel Dreyer, the versatile Richie Castro. Other artists and dancing. The party will started at 6 pm, October 10 at Centara Duang Tawan Hotel. The ticket costs 800 Baht, available at Rimping Supermarket or Ruen Raya Resort Residence. · Salsa Dance and dinner at Ruen Raya Resort and Residence on August 28 at 6.30 pm. The owner, Ms Raya Leulai, welcomes friends and will prepare a delicious Seafood and Tenderloin Beef BBQ buffet with Sashimi (Japanese raw fish) for snack. Also talented salsa dancers will be on the dance floor,to make the night more fun.. The charge is 350 Baht person. Beverages, wine and beer will be on sale on this evening. · Baan Phonsawan needs our support to children. This child development center is multi-dimension organization which assists in the development and education of ethnic minority children in Chiang Mai. The children we serve are from under- privileged and marginalized migrant communities who, due to their poverty and stateless status, lack access to basic social services. The mission is to provide these children education, life skill, spiritual formation and character development with ultimate goal of integrating them into Thai society.
